International Economics Olympiad (IEO)
Founded in 2016 by the Institute of Economic Education (INEV) and supported by the International Olympic Academy (IOA), the International Economics Olympiad has quickly evolved into one of the world’s leading academic contests in economics and finance. Initially a Czech national competition, the IEO now spans 28+ countries and regions, engaging over 97,000 students globally as of 2024.
The Olympiad is open to both middle school and high school students regardless of their educational system (IB, A-Levels, AP, etc.). The IEO curriculum is approximately 90% aligned with international standards in economics education. Participants benefit from the guidance of global thought leaders, including Nobel Laureates and policymakers.
The IEO 2025 Global Round – Ancient Olympia, Greece
Organized by the IOA, the Global Round is the culmination of the IEO journey. It is a prestigious two-day experience where students undertake intense economic case studies, simulations, and presentations. More than a competition, the IEO Global Round serves as a platform for cultural exchange and lifelong friendships.
The IEO is not just about academic excellence – it’s a transformative journey. As 2011 Nobel Prize Laureate Thomas Sargent remarked, “Participating in the Economics Olympiad has been a transformative experience for students, fostering their passion for economics and shaping their future careers.”
Meet Vietnam’s Top 5 Representatives for IEO 2025
Soon Cheng is proud to reveal its five outstanding young economists who will represent the nation at the IEO 2025 Global Round, hosted at the International Olympic Academy (IOA) in Ancient Olympia, Greece this August.
- Nguyen Chi Dung – Grade 11, High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi National University of Education
- Nguyen Minh Anh – Grade 12, TH School
- Lam Quoc Dai – Grade 11, Saigon South International School
- Huynh Thi Yen Ngoc – Grade 11, Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted
- Vu Thanh Ha – Grade 10, Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted
These students were selected through a competitive two-round process. It began with the Preliminary Round on March 27, 2025, followed by the National Selection Round on May 3, 2025. The top 65% of performers advanced to the national level. Out of this pool, the final five were chosen to represent Vietnam on the global stage.
The IEO is not just about academic excellence – it’s a transformative journey. As 2011 Nobel Prize Laureate Thomas Sargent remarked, “Participating in the Economics Olympiad has been a transformative experience for students, fostering their passion for economics and shaping their future careers.”
Vietnam’s top five representatives now stand at the threshold of global recognition. As they prepare to compete against elite minds from over 30 countries, we extend our best wishes for their success and commend them for their determination, brilliance, and national pride.
